ISLA Wellness – A Brief History
ISLA Wellness originally started as a concept in late 2016 and intermittently offered a limited offering of esthetics and massage services. It originally started as Isla Esthetics and Massage. After that, our owner/therapist decided to work for one of the premiere spas in Calgary to gain valuable work experience and entered the education field working for a couple of Massage schools in Calgary. We had to put the business on hiatus and when the pandemic came, plans to reopen it were suspended.
2025, however was the right time to finally relaunch the business as ‘ISLA Wellness’. We are looking to be the leader in the delivery of mobile wellness services (within the scope of practice and within what is allowed by law) and looking forward to opening our very own clinic at the end of the year.
Our owner/business leader is Jesa Sibaen. She has over 15 years of experience in the beauty and wellness industry starting with traditional massage (hilot) practice from the Philippines and got her RMT designation here in Alberta. She is a makeup artist and had added certifications and experience from diverse esthetics skillsets such as PMU Artistry, Facial Specialist, Brow and Lash Artistry and Waxing. She is currently completing her academic requirements to get her Acupuncture and TCM license.
She is supported by a growing team of therapists and people who will be looking forward to helping you in your wellness journey.

ISLA
Isla (ees-luh) is a word originally from the Spanish language which when adopted to Filipino means ‘island’ or ‘isle’. It was chosen as the name of the business because islands often symbolize wellness and serenity due to their natural features and isolation from the hustle and bustle of mainstream living. The business aims to provide all our clients the experience of having a time for themselves away from the rigors of life where they can relax and rejuvenate. Isla invokes the calm and blissful tropical island living.
ISLA Wellness VISION
The wellness industry has grown significantly over the past couple of years offering a wide array of services. However, with this growth, there exists several gaps in care that still need to be addressed to provide truly inclusive and effective solutions:
- Accessibility
Wellness services often cater to people who can make the time to make appointments at their leisure. A lot of professionals who need wellness services are often too tired and spent at the end of the day that they forego these opportunities resulting in a significant part of the population not availing of the benefits of therapeutic treatments. By offering mobile services and the ability to book services at the comfort of their homes, wellness care can be accessed by those who need it. - Cultural Competence
Many wellness programs lack cultural sensitivity, failing to consider diverse traditions, practices, and preferences. More inclusive offerings tailored to different cultural backgrounds would create a broader sense of belonging. - Personalized Therapeutic Programs
Wellness services often focus on relaxation particularly in the field of massage. Targeted treatments for orthopedic conditions such as CTS, TOS, sprains and strains and specialty massages focused on specific individual needs can lead to more comprehensive care. - Alternative Treatments
Despite increased awareness of alternative treatments over the years, there are still a lot of skepticism with regards to treatments such as acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), massage and herbology. These fields of wellness care offer treatment pathways that go hand in hand to compliment traditional forms of healing. - Education and Transparency
With the rise of trends and wellness “fads,” there’s often misinformation and a lack of evidence-based guidance. Clear communication and education about the efficacy and safety of treatments would foster trust.
ISLA Wellness as a business aims to address the above gaps in the wellness industry looking to educate and empower all our clients and the general public of the trends, benefits and importance of taking care of oneself.
